The Response to Intervention Model: A Structured Approach

To support every child's reading development, we can rely on the Response to Intervention (RtI) model, a comprehensive, tiered approach that addresses individual needs. It's a reliable compass, helping us chart a course that ensures educational success for all students, regardless of their starting point. By relying on a structured system, we can provide the personalized attention that is critical for those who need more guidance.

The Three Tiers of RtI: Tailoring Support

The RtI model divides support into three tiers, each designed to cater to varying levels of need. Tier 1 is the universal support layer, offering high-quality instruction intended to meet the needs of around 80% of students. However, for those who need more focused attention, Tier 2 steps in with small-group targeted instruction. Finally, Tier 3 delivers individualized strategies and interventions for the approximately 5% who require a more customized approach.

For those children facing the most challenges, Tier 3 offers a lifeline with intensive, personalized instruction. Working closely with specialist educators, these students receive tailor-made lessons that address specific learning needs, ensuring that no challenge is too great to overcome. It's about respecting individual learning styles and adapting our strategies to support each child's journey.

Sunshine Phonics Decodables: Enhancing Our Toolkit

To complement our RtI framework, the Sunshine Phonics Decodables Series is a fantastic resource. Its structured, systematic approach to phonics instruction aligns perfectly with the needs of each tier. By offering a cumulative collection of lessons, we give students the tools they need to develop their reading, spelling, and writing skills—all in harmony with their unique learning requirements.
